A Beginner’s Guide to CBD

New stores are popping up like mushrooms after the rain, and almost everyone knows someone who has tried it before. Let’s talk about CBD.

Over the past few years, CBD has become a real remedy for… “everything.” Many of us are naturally wondering: What’s behind the CBD trend? Does it really help? What am I actually buying, and is it even legal?

We answer all these questions and more in our article!

First and foremost: Yes, CBD is legal! But with one condition: It’s legal if the THC content in the products is below 0.3% (in the United States and since the beginning of 2023 in the EU).

We’ll explain how to determine if the THC content is below the legal limit below!

Let’s start with the basics:

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol and is a component of the female hemp plant (cannabis). CBD is one of the cannabinoids, a group of chemical compounds that were previously mainly found in the hemp plant. Over 100 such cannabinoids have been discovered, including THC and CBD. Unlike THC, CBD is not intoxicating, but it is claimed to have many positive effects on the human body and mental health. Many users report that CBD has anxiety-relieving, pain-relieving, antipsychotic, and antispasmodic effects on them.

How does CBD work?

CBD supports the endocannabinoid system. This is part of our regulating nervous system and contains both CB receptors and the enzymes that break them down. The good news is that everyone has this system, but the bad news is that activating the endocannabinoid system can take a few weeks. So be patient!

But how is natural CBD actually made?

As explained above, CBD is a natural component of the female hemp plant, which can be found in the plant’s flowers. In addition to cannabinoids, every plant also contains terpenes and flavonoids. They influence the taste, smell, and appearance of the plants. They can be found not only in cannabis plants but also in lavender.

The content of CBD and THC in cannabis plants depends on the strain. In the case of industrial hemp in the EU, it currently usually has a ratio of 1:20 to a maximum of 1:30. It is not possible to grow pure CBD or pure THC cannabis plants.

However, it is possible to increase the CBD content as much as possible and keep the THC content as low as possible. What does this mean for the CBD or THC content in plants in Bulgaria? Currently, it is not possible to legally obtain cannabis flowers containing more than 9% CBD without exceeding the legal limit of >0.3% THC.

So how do I know if the product is legal?

This is a question we are asked very often. The answer is simple: check the analysis certificates!

Every reputable CBD store should provide you with certificates of analysis for their plants. You can see the certificate for each of Extract Labs’ products in our online store. This means that you can be absolutely sure that you will not be misled about the CBD content, and, more importantly, you do not need to worry about buying an illegal product!

Speaking of worry: Is CBD dangerous?

The answer here is very clear: No! According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), CBD is entirely safe. The 2018 report clearly states that it has a good safety profile and does not lead to addiction. However, this does not mean that CBD is a panacea. The real danger lies more in the promises that are often made with CBD.

It is not recommended to independently stop therapies or medications prescribed by doctors and replace them with CBD. If you want to try CBD but are afraid or concerned, please talk to a doctor about it, preferably someone who is familiar with CBD and the endocannabinoid system. They can advise you on the appropriate dosage and any interactions with other medications you may already be taking. We would also be happy to recommend doctors we already work with.

We have now reached the end of our guide, and we hope that we have covered all the basic questions. If we have forgotten anything, please do not hesitate to email us or reach out to us on social media.
